Tuesday Thesis: 5/6/25
Listen to the people. And your gut.
Hello! Welcome to the Tuesday Thesis and thanks for supporting the site. A quick note — there’s gonna be some Pope stuff popping up this week and it’ll come out kind of as-it-happens and available to all subscribers. Okay, let’s jump in!
There is a lot of conversation online about what “The Democrats” should do in 2028. Almost all of this conversation is between people whose entire job goes like this:
THE ATTENTION ECONOMY: COLUMNIST EDITION
Morning: Wake up in NYC, DC, or LA. Scroll phone. Read a bunch of articles that have just come out that talk about politics, culture, and society.
Lunch: Try to come up with a take on politics, culture, and society that seems unique from what they just read in the morning.
Afternoon: Go on Twitter/Bluesky and test out their unique take with their followers.
Evening: Write an article on politics, culture, and society to be published the next morning.
Repeat until death or book deal.
There’s more to be said about how this cycle then feeds the cable news cycle which feeds the twitter power user cycle, but that’s for another time. The point for right now is that when sentences are thrown out there like “The Dems should do this,” or “Here’s what the Dems should learn,” or “One Cool Trick The Republicans Don’t Want Democrats To Know,” you should remember that they’re just a person whose livelihood depends on you caring enough to click on the headline. [Totally unlike OMGreg, which will not become a primary financial stream unless I break global-importance news or get an interview with the worm in RFK’s brain.]
