I find that with breaking news it’s good to let things breathe a beat, because then The Take Economy — people who have to find something to say for their own personal economics, regardless of if they have anything good to say — gets their first round of stuff out and you can let that noise die out.

Sometimes something is simply too newsy or dominant to ignore, though. So:

An ICE agent murdered a woman today in Minnesota. We can just do a blowout of takes and facts and all that to save time:

  • Trump sent ICE into MN after getting judicially spanked about the National Guard in LA and Chicago, because he can’t sit on a loss.

  • MN has been the focal point of a bunch of internet dipshittery because a years-long scandal over childcare fraud turned into a way horny white supremacists could force their way into daycares and criminalize “being from Somalia.”

  • Tim Walz, MN Governor, ran against Trump last year, so Trump would order his death if he could get away with it.

  • ICE is full of a bunch of verifiably untrained and unqualified military/LEO dropouts who got into this job to pay off either child support or FanDuel debt.

  • This masked, anonymous, unaccountable ICE agent shot a 37 year old American citizen point-blank in the face in her car.

  • Trump sent those guys there to start shit, they started shit and turns out shit started back in form of a large protest, and they shot and killed a woman.

The response today and probably the next few days is actually really predictable if you (a) are Black or (b) care about a Black person or ( c ) have never asked “Can I touch your hair, it looks so fluffy?”

The people on Team Murderer will spend all their time attempting to muddy the water on the situation / video / involved parties to keep everyone endlessly debating “was this shooting justified?” This is, I admit, a brilliant strategy by Team Murderer because white Americans still fall for this shit every single time. [I guess like google “No Angel” if you really want a deep dive? It’ll count as Doing The Work.] This is what will happen on social media at least until the weekend — long debates from two people who were not there analyzing video frames and quoting SCOTUS decisions on use of force. If you do this… you are Dumb And Wasting Your Life.1

You have eyes. You really want to watch the video, watch the video. Sorry, multiple videos from multiple angles. And, y’know, read the statements from the multiple people who were there and watched a lady get murdered. You have eyes. You have a brain. You have common sense. Not everything needs to be a two-sided internet debate where you both type until your kids ask where dinner is and why you haven’t blinked in three hours.

Part of Being Normal - a key goal I have for America at large - is just being able to look at something and call it what it is. And then when people talk after that point, you get to save time/energy/earholes and go “Nah, it’s the thing that it is.” And you move on.

Here is a larger example of calling something what it is.

  • An ICE agent murdered a lady today.

  • A bunch of people who like that it happened in the government and media are going to use arguments about the officer fearing for his life.

  • Those same people, literally yesterday, argued that Ashli Babbit was murdered by a Capitol police officer when she stormed the building and made him fear for his life.

  • Some people who are paid to professionally never connect the dots and arrive at a conclusion “cannot understand” this disconnect.

  • It’s because the people defending ICE are bad people with evil goals, and the things they want to happen and will defend happening are evil things.2

One last thing here… remember in 2020 when we had a microburst of civil rights and the Black Lives Matter movement? Remember how a bunch of people around that movement were saying “Abolish ICE?”

And remember how like a zillion Democratic consultants spend the next 5 years going “if you want to win elections you could never say abolish ICE, that’s too radical, people like ICE.”

Don’t those guys just absolutely look dumb as **** now? Wonder if they’re all still working in Washington doling about Grade A Numbnut takes? [They are! Get ready!]
